irishmurr  > Grandchildren > The Joys Of Being A Grandparent!
We're now the proud grandparents of three -- one granddaughter (MacCaila) and two grandsons (John and Colin). As you can tell from these photos, we're definitely enjoying being grandparents!

When we learned we were going to be grandparents for the first time, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that we would be called Daideo and Maimeo by the grandkids -- which are Irish terms for grandfather and grandmother. Being proud of our Irish heritage, it seemed fitting that our wee little ones call us by the Irish names!

Grandmas definitely have the touch! MacCaila was winding down from a fish fry at the Irish American Club -- and what better place to crash than Maimeo's lap? (January 2005)

"Look what I did!" MacCaila showing off her very first, do-it-yourself haircut. Like the big smile?

Maimeo gasped and said "MacCaila Steel Murray -- what have you done!" Except when Mac told her Mom the story, her version was: "I cut my hair ....... Maimeo smiled." Wrong! Guess if Mac thought she was going down, she'd take Maimeo along with her.

Once she got over the shock though, Mom thought the layer actually looked nice. We decided that MacCaila, our very own little Fashion Police, thought she needed some layers in her haircut and took matters into her own hands! (April 10, 2005)

Grandmas Day At The Pool!

With another 90 degree day in store, we called some of our friends who also have grandkids, and ended up with a spontaneous pool party. On hand were Dana and Erin, Diana and Michael and, of course, MacCaila and Maimeo. (July 20, 2005)

We enjoy traveling with MacCaila and here we are on one of our many vacations. We took a trip to South Bend, Indiana, visited the campus at Notre Dame University, stayed in an Irish bed-and-breakfast, and had dinner in a mansion. MacCaila's definitely going to have some great memories! (August 2005)

Imagine walking through the house and hearing a deep voice saying: "Barbie, I thought this was a pool party and I didn't bring my trunks." And then to look in the rumpus room and find MacCaila and Daideo playing Barbies together! (December 2005)

MacCaila and Mom had gotten Maimeo a special Irish Barbie for Christmas and Mac wanted that Barbie sooooooo badly for herself. Imagine her surprise -- and delight -- when Aunt Debby got one exactly like it for her! Now MacCaila and her grandma have matching Barbies!

It's funny to see: Maimeo collects nutcrackers, thimbles and Barbies -- and so does MacCaila! (December 2005)

One of the joys of being a great-grandparent? Well, we'd have to ask Meme about that -- but guess it's safe to say that getting a personalized birthday present from your great-granddaughter can certainly be considered a joy! (January, 2006)
