When we heard this year's Grand National of the Cadillac LaSalle Club was going to be held in Savannah, we made plans to attend. Larry for the cars, and me for the historic town -- keeping both of us happy!
After having spent a couple of nights in the Cape Fear, North Carolina area, it was on to Savannah! We took the scenic route up the coast and here we are crossing the bridge into Charleston, North Carolina. (August 1, 2007)

Once we arrived in Savannah, we checked into our deluxe accomodations at the Marriott Riverfront. These comfortable beds and multitude of pillows were the talk of everyone attending the Grand National! Larry thought they'd made a mistake and put us in a room awaiting the arrival of the Queen! ha! The Marriott Riverfront is -- of course -- right on the Savannah River and this was the view from our room. (August 1, 2007)

We met up with our dear friends, Rich and Joellen, whom we'd had a great time with last year at the Indiana driving tour. Here's Joellen "trying" Rich's Miller Chill -- and since the guys were deeply engrossed in their conversation, he didn't even notice it was half gone when she handed it back to him! (August 1, 2007)

Here's Savannah's well-known Waving Girl, which is a statue immortalizing a Savannahian named Florence Martus, who lived near the entrance to the Savannah Harbor and supposedly waved to each ship that came and went -- for 44 years! (August 2, 2007)

This is Savannah's River Street, right in the historic district of the city. It's so historic, it still has cobblestone streets. (August 2, 2007)

We climbed these stairs, or ones similar to them, many times. They take you up to the main street level of Savannah from the river. (August 2, 2007)

This is Savannah's city hall, which is located on Yamacraw Bluff overlooking the Savannah River. This is the same bluff where General James Oglethorpe landed in 1733 with the first group of colonists who would establish the City of Savannah and the last of the 13 colonies of England. General Sherman decided not to burn Savannah, and gave it to President Lincoln as an early Christmas present, so many of the old homes remain intact -- unlike many other southern cities. (August 2, 2007)
