irishmurr  > Vacation > Touring the Lincoln Highway in a 1957 Cadillac
We drove our 1957 Cadillac on the Lincoln Highway from Lisbon, Ohio to Auburn, Indiana. It was a beautiful, historical journey which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We put together the Canton to Bluffton segment of the driving tour, which included a get-together mixer for all the participants. We were lucky enough to get a parlor room at the beautiful Canton Marriott McKinley Grand hotel, which was perfect for this occasion. (September 15, 2005)

When Larry wasn't entertaining, he was in our adjoining room (with king-sized four poster bed --- la-ti-da!) checking for baseball scores. (September 15, 2005)

Our first leg of the actual driving tour began in Canton, Ohio -- with the group heading west to scenic Lisbon, Ohio and then heading east to Bluffton, Ohio. (September 16, 2005)

We love these driving tours because they take us through some beautiful countryside. (September 16, 2005)

In Lisbon, we all stopped for a break and, of course, many of the guys popped the trunks, got out the towels and cleaned off their babies. (September 16, 2005)

Lisbon was getting ready for the Johnny Appleseed Festival, which was starting the next day -- as you can see from the big apple chair that Carole found to take a seat in. (September 16, 2005)

Lisbon is home to the Steel Trolley Diner. We ate there when we did our first dry run for the tour and recommended it highly to anyone in our group who wanted to enjoy breakfast or lunch there. And, of course, we didn't mind that it made an awesome backdrop for this photo of Bill Steiner's 1955 Coupe de Ville, along with our 1957. (September 16, 2005)

There is a portion of the original brick Lincoln Highway still intact on Baywood Street, which proved to be another great stopping point and, of course, the cameras, they were a'snapping! (September 16, 2005)

Along the route, we passed some remnants of the old Lincoln Highway. This is an original pillar just outside Leesville, Ohio.

The Boy Scouts also placed over 2,000 markers along the Lincoln Highway in 1928. We passed some that were still original markers, as well as some reproductions. (September 16, 2005)
