DailyPhotos > irishmurr  > Photography > Daily Photos (July - Dec. 2008)
I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but just got Photoshop Elements, so wish me luck!

I began posting on the daily photos community almost two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > I was out and about, trying to get an interesting shot of all the limbs that are down around here, when I came across this fellow. (September 15, 2008)

"The best things in life are unexpected - because there were no expectations."
   ~~ Eli Khamarov
irishmurr > Today was spent battening down the hatches for the remnants of Ike that were heading our way, so here's another one from yesterday's half-time break: Michael trying to avoid having his photo taken. I managed to get a few shots, but he was too fast for me to get him really in focus. We'll call it a tie. :-)
(September 14, 2008)

"Children's games are hardly games. Children are never more serious than when they play."
   ~~ Montaigne
irishmurr > As you may have figured out, my Saturdays now revolve around college football. Today, during half time and a lull in the raindrops, I was able to get outside and take this shot at our friend's house. So .... voila! ... here's my daily.

Good news: Notre Dame won
Bad news: Ohio State lost
(September 13, 2008)

"The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur."
   ~~ Vince Lombardi
irishmurr > Happy Birthday Lady Kate!

I was taking this shot as my daily -- thinking along the lines that, even though it's damp and dreary outside and the leaves are starting to fall, I'm still hanging on to summer -- when I heard it was Lady Kate's birthday. Well, that changed the whole aspect of this daily.

From one flamingo lover to another -- have a happy one! (September 12, 2008)

"A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip."
~~ Anonymous
irishmurr > It's difficult to put into words what I'm thinking and feeling today. Seven years ago, tragedy struck our nation. I, personally, think it made us stronger and more appreciative of what we do have -- which makes me proud. But, at the same time, my heart breaks for the families who lost loved ones on that tragic day. And then, of course, we can't forget those who are so bravely serving our country today. (September 11, 2008)

"From every mountain side
Let Freedom ring"
~~ Samuel F. Smith
irishmurr > Now that the worst of summer's heat is over, my roses are blooming again. (September 10, 2008)

"There is nothing more difficult for a truly creative painter than to paint a rose, because before he can do so he has first to forget all the roses that were ever painted."
   ~~ Henri Matisse
irishmurr > Hard as it may be to believe, I'm still working on the photos from our vacation. So this is how I spent my day -- remembering our walk along the boardwalk in Atlantic City. And since it was a cool, rainy day around here, it wasn't such a bad way to spend the day after all. (September 9, 2008)

"Memory is a child walking along a seashore. You never can tell what small pebble it will pick up and store away among its treasured things."
   ~~ Pierce Harris
irishmurr > I spent all of my spare time today working on baby shower photos, so here's another one from yesterday. Johnny, just hanging out, waiting for his cousin to arrive. (September 8, 2008)

"Always kiss your children goodnight - even if they're already asleep."
   ~~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
irishmurr > Partners in crime.

If Johnny's going to get in trouble, he's taking Isaac down with him. Today was the baby shower for our next grandchild. But since Maeve isn't here yet, I'll share a shot of these two scallywags instead. (September 7, 2008)

"What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy-dogs' tails"
   ~~ Anonymous
irishmurr > The beginning of a new season.

True Fighting Irish fans cheer for them through the good years, as well as the bad. So you know what we were doing today. (September 6, 2008)

"Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame,
Wake up the echoes cheering her name,
Send a volley cheer on high,
Shake down the thunder from the sky!"
  ~~ John Shea
irishmurr > Just another one of my family snapshots. But it's a pretty special one to us because Johnny's Grandpa Ulises became a U.S. citizen today!

It was a very thought-provoking ceremony -- watching as people gave their Oath of Allegiance to the United States, just like millions have done before them, over hundreds of years. This country was made up of immigrants who came here looking for a better way of life for themselves and their families and it was neat to sit and watch as it continues today.

And, of course, it was extra special to us -- personally. Did I mention that already? :-)
(September 5, 2008)

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
   ~~ Francis Bellamy
irishmurr > Relaxing on my front porch -- and this is my view. (September 4, 2008)

"A flower's appeal is in its contradictions - so delicate in form yet strong in fragrance, so small in size yet big in beauty, so short in life yet long on effect."
   ~~ Adabella Radici
irishmurr > Exhaustion ....

..... and I'm talking about me, not Johnny. I won't even go into the kind of day I was having, until this tired young man (who was trying to avoid nap time) decided to stop fighting it, climbed onto my lap and proceeded to fall asleep.

And suddenly, all the aggravations of the day didn't matter. (September 3, 2008)

"Grandma always made you feel she had been waiting to see just you all day and now the day was complete."
   ~~ Marcy DeMaree

irishmurr > It was a busy, busy, busy day -- so here's a little scenic shot I'd thought I'd share with you from the weekend. (September 2, 2008)

"Slow down and enjoy life. It's not only the scenery you miss by going to fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why."
   ~~ Eddie Cantor
irishmurr > The end to a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Hope you all enjoyed yours as much as we did ours. (September 1, 2008)

"All good things must come to an end."
   ~~ English Proverb
