I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but just got Photoshop Elements, so wish me luck!

I began posting on the daily photos community almost two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > Here's another one from Sunday -- it's getting way to close to Christmas for me to even pick up the camera.

Thought I'd share this one for those of you who commented how old Johnny is getting. Check him out after his latest haircut -- he really looks like a little man now. (December 15, 2008)

"Hair is vitally personal to children. They weep vigorously when it is cut for the first time; no matter how it grows, bushy, straight or curly, they feel they are being shorn of a part of their personality."
   ~~ Charles Chaplin
irishmurr > Johnny and Santa were hanging out together today. (December 14, 2008)

"There are three stages of a man's life: He believes in Santa Claus, he doesn't believe in Santa Claus, he is Santa Claus."
   ~~ Anonymous
irishmurr > Don't you love people who can bake?

My baking skills end at sugar or chocolate chip cookies, so I certainly enjoy when people come to the house bearing gifts. (December 13, 2008)

"Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie."
   ~~ Jim Davis
irishmurr > Ahhhhh ..... this feels good ..... (December 12, 2008)

"The time to relax is when you don't have time for it."
   ~~ Sydney J. Harris
irishmurr > The decorations are all up, and now it's time to start cooking. Lasagna for 30, coming right up.

It's going to be a busy weekend around here, but I will try and check in every once in a while. If not, there's always Sunday when the party is over, the house is clean and decorated and I have left-overs and don't have to cook. ;-)

Have a great weekend everyone! (December 11, 2008)

"Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind."
   ~~ Mary Ellen Chase
irishmurr > My hectic day at an end, I only had energy enough for a quick shot of my Christmas tree. Thought Lady Kate and MyKey might like this particular ornament. :-)
(December 10, 2008)

"Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths."
   ~~ Etty Hillesum
irishmurr > Yes, I know .... it's another adorable grandchild shot. Indulge a grandma, okay? It's two weeks before Christmas and we have over 20 of our close, personal friends coming to dinner on Saturday, I need to finish decorating, gifts need to be purchased, cards need to be written ....

Plus, if Johnny had to have his photo taken with our stuffed Santa, so does Maeve. (December 9, 2008)

"We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once."
   ~~ Calvin Coolidge
irishmurr > We had great fun taking Maeve's "Baby's First Christmas" shots ..... with an Irish twist, of course. (December 8, 2008)

"Laughter is wine for the soul - laughter soft, or loud and deep, tinged through with seriousness - the hilarious declaration made by man that life is worth living."
   ~~ Sean O'Casey
irishmurr > Today was a busy day -- we celebrated Chas' birthday and went to a Christmas party at the Irish American Club, which meant lots of photos. Trying to decide which one to use as my daily was a tough decision, but here it is. (December 7, 2008)

"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus."
   ~~ Francis Pharcellus Church
irishmurr > Johnny and I agree, 'tis the season to be tired ..... fa la la la la, la la la la .... (December 6, 2008)

"I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom."
   ~~ Thomas Carlyle
irishmurr > Another snapshot, from the Snapshot Queen. ;-)

Although this one is kinda special. Friends of ours -- whose wedding we were in 21 years ago -- spent years trying to have a child, and then years trying to adopt a child. About five years ago, they adopted a little boy from Russia and then within the next year, were able to adopt his older brother. And today that older brother, Ronan, was celebrating his 10th birthday. It's special to see our dear friends with the children they so desperately wanted, as well as to see these two special young fellows enjoying a life they probably never could've dreamed of in Russia -- celebrating birthdays surrounded by loving parents, family and friends.

Happy Birthday Ronan! (December 5, 2008)

"How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."
   ~~ George Washington Carver
irishmurr > Flashback.

My day today consisted of working, shopping, wrapping gifts and then collapsing -- or in other words, nothing worthy of a daily. But I did happen to be looking at photos from last December and decided to give you this one of Johnny from one year ago. Thought he might help any of you not in the holiday spirit -- or at least put a smile on your face. (December 4, 2008)

"God gave us memories that we might have roses in December."
   ~~ J.M. Barrie
irishmurr > I'm getting there ..... the tree is decorated. (December 3, 2008)

"Progress, of the best kind, is comparatively slow. Great results cannot be achieved at once; and we must be satisfied to advance in life as we walk, step by step."
   ~~ Samuel Smiles
irishmurr > My original plan for today's daily was a shot of Maeve, until I found out our little lady was down with a cold. So instead of coming over to see us, she stayed home where it was nice and warm -- which meant no photo op today.

But luckily, I just happened to have a spare shot from the other day. :-)
(December 2, 2008)

"There's just something about a Teddy Bear that's impossible to explain. When you hold one in your arms, you get a feeling of love, comfort and security. It's almost supernatural."
   ~~ James Ownby
irishmurr > Frosty laying on a guilt trip.

I need to finish my holiday decorating but going back to work after a four day weekend, I came home today and just wasn't in the mood. Frosty kept looking at me, as if to say: "when are you going to get up off that couch and get to work?"

At least he did it with a smile! (December 1, 2008)

"Guilt is the price we pay willingly for doing what we are going to do anyway."
   ~~ Isabelle Holland
