DailyPhotos > irishmurr  > Photography > Daily Photos (July - Dec. 2008)
I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but just got Photoshop Elements, so wish me luck!

I began posting on the daily photos community almost two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > How many of you have ever seen Lucy the Margate Elephant? We saw her w-a-a-a-y back, when we were on our honeymoon -- and today we found ourselves back for another visit. Larry's teasing me that now my life is complete -- I've seen Lucy twice in one lifetime! (August 14, 2008)

"Nature's great masterpiece, an elephant - the only harmless great thing.”
   ~~ John Donne
irishmurr > We Have Arrived.

No, we didn't arrive in this lovely '59 Caddy -- but we are at the Grand National of the Cadillac LaSalle Club. I want to apologize to everyone up front because I'll only be posting periodically while we're out of town -- but more importantly I won't have a lot of time to look over all of your wonderful photos while we're traveling. So, I do apologize ..... but I'll try and check in when I can, and I will be back! (August 13, 2008)

"To apologize is to lay the foundation for a future offense."
    ~~ Ambrose Bierce
irishmurr > Girls Night Out.

The four of us used to bowl together, but once we gave that up ... well we decided to still get together once a month for dinner. We've been friends for decades and hopefully will be able to keep this up for decades to come. And this was an extra special dinner for us because we had an extra special Aussie on hand to celebrate with us! (August 12, 2008)

"A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are."
   ~~ Anonymous
irishmurr > Memories.

We took Johnny for his first visit to the Kiddie Park and, yes, there were four grandparents, two cameras and one camcorder on hand to record the event. This is the same place my parents took me as a child, where we took our children and where we're now taking our grandchildren. (August 11, 2008)

"If you carry your childhood with you, you never become older."
   ~~ Tom Stoppard
irishmurr > It was a little different out by the lighthouse today, than it was the last time we were there. (August 10, 2008)

"Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get."
   ~~ Mark Twain
irishmurr > Look who stopped by to check out our Cadillac Show: Kim (a.k.a. Mom4squirrels)! (August 9, 2008)

"Friendship is the source of the greatest pleasures, and without friends even the most agreeable pursuits become tedious."
   ~~ St. Thomas Aquinas
irishmurr > Friday nights at our house: adults on the porch, children playing in the yard and me taking photos! (August 8, 2008)

"Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave, and grow old wanting to get back to."
   ~~ John Ed Pearce
irishmurr > For those of you who have missed seeing Jack (since he's so uncoooperative when it comes to being photographed), this one's for you. I took this when we were all just hangin' out, waiting for our friend to arrive ..... (August 7, 2008)

"He that can have Patience, can have what he will."
   ~~ Benjamin Franklin
irishmurr > Like Cadillacs? Need a daily photo? ;-)

Well, if you're in the Northeast Ohio area, I know just the place to be on Saturday, August 9 -- the Legacy of Cadillac show at Legacy Village. Or, if you're in the Philadelphia area on Saturday, August 16, they'll be plenty of opportunities to see Cadillacs, and get your daily photo at the same time, at the Grand National of the Cadillac LaSalle Club which is being held in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. If anyone would like more information, feel free to e-mail me. (August 6, 2008)

"I got chrome everywhere I need it
Rolled and pleated front to back
If you don't think I got it made
You ought to see me dressed in black
Cadillac, Cadillac
I'm a coupe de ville built for thrill."
Cadillac

irishmurr > "Shoot through" means to go off somewhere???

I'm brushing up on my Oz lingo because a dear friend of mine from Australia will be arriving in a couple of days. No, it's not Lesley, Jacinda or Daniel -- although they really need to come and visit the family (hint hint).

My cobber and I will be doing some things in lovely Northeast Ohio, then we're heading down to have some cheesesteaks in Philly, do some gambling in Atlantic City, see some Cadillacs in Cherry Hill, ending up with a visit to the Smoky Mountains. I'll obviously be taking lots of photos -- and will try and post, and leave comments as much as I can ..... but no promises! (August 5, 2008)

Oh, and if anyone needs Jacinda's captions translated, I think I might be able to help. :-)

"There is no better way of life in the world than that of the Australian. I firmly believe this. The grumbling, growling, cursing, profane, laughing, beer drinking, abusive, loyal-to-his-mates Australian is one of the few free men left on this earth. He fears no one, crawls to no one, bludges on no one, and acknowledges no master. Learn his way. Learn his language. Get yourself accepted as one of him; and you will enter a world that you never dreamed existed. And once you have entered it, you will never leave it."
   ~~ John O'Grady
irishmurr > Today was our 24th anniversary. (August 4, 2008)

"A wedding anniversary is the celebration of love, trust, partnership, tolerance and tenacity. The order varies for any given year."
   ~~ Paul Sweeney
irishmurr > Here are some flowers for everyone who sent well wishes to Johnny yesterday. This is one of the best group of people I've run into in a long, long time.

There are some in particular who have helped me through a very private and very painful time -- and for those of you ..... well, I don't think there are enough flowers in the whole world to say thank you appropriately, but I thought I'd give it a try.

So, to ALL of you -- Thank You!
(August 3, 2008)

"Strangers are just friends waiting to happen."
   ~~ Rod McKuen
irishmurr > Another quick snapshot from the pool party on Friday. I'm using it because this little man wasn't laughing today and gave us all quite a scare. He suffered a seizure at a festival about an hour from home and was taken by ambulance to the local hospital. We stopped by to pick up the other grandparents, and along with an aunt and uncle, sped out to the hospital. Test results showed it was probably the result of an ear infection, so our little man was comfortably settled back at home before the day was over -- while the rest of the family enjoyed a joint sigh of relief. (August 2, 2008)

"One's family is the most important thing in life. I look at it this way: One of these days I'll be over in a hospital somewhere with four walls around me. And the only people who'll be with me will be my family."
   ~~ Robert C. Byrd
irishmurr > Just a quick snapshot from our pool party yesterday -- and, no, this wasn't the pool! This was the baby pool for the little ones in the crowd, although the bigger kids enjoyed it too. We had 13 children swimming all afternoon, with the adults taking over into the evening and night. Lots of photos need to be processed and posted, but first things first: time to clean up! (August 1, 2008)

"Fairest of the months!
Ripe summer's queen
The hey-day of the year
With robes that gleam with sunny sheen
Sweet August doth appear."
   ~~ R. Combe Miller
irishmurr > My tomatoes have ripened!

I know, it's not very inspiring -- but I did get out of the pool long enough to take the shot. (July 31, 2008)

"If life deals you lemons, make lemonade; if it deals you tomatoes, make Bloody Marys."
   ~~ Jack Handy
