DailyPhotos > irishmurr  > Photography > Daily Photos (July - Dec. 2008)
I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but just got Photoshop Elements, so wish me luck!

I began posting on the daily photos community almost two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

While my daily photos from 2007, can be found here.

irishmurr > I can't wait 'til these babies ripen! (July 15, 2008)

"It's difficult to think anything but pleasant thoughts while eating a homegrown tomato."
   ~~ Lewis Grizzard

And, yes, say it with me boys and girls: "deperation shot!"
irishmurr > I know -- I'm a copycat!

I've been impressed by the lovely photos I've seen, showing the "backside" of flowers -- so today was my turn to give it a try. (July 14, 2008)

"What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?"
   ~~ Vincent van Gogh
irishmurr > "The customer can have any color he wants so long as it's black."
   ~~ Henry Ford

This is a little different -- the quote before my comment. I did that only because this particular quote may only be funny to me. Our friends own one of the Model T's in this shot and they're heading off to a big show in Indiana -- where they're expecting hundreds of Model T's -- and she remarked about the heat being radiated off the field, because every one of the cars there will be black! And being the rebel that I am, instead of a black and white shot of black cars, I chose to do the shot in sepia. :-)

irishmurr > Having lived with curly hair my entire life, I tried to warn Johnny about the months of July and August ..... but looks like he's figuring that out himself. (July 12, 2008)

"A child is a curly, dimpled lunatic."
   ~~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Of course, everyone knows this quote doesn't apply to our John William! ;-)
irishmurr > It was fireworks night at the ball field. (July 11, 2008)

"I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game. It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism. Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set. Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us."
   ~~ Walt Whitman
irishmurr > I'm outta here!

I was outside trying to take some shots of my baby finches who had just left their nest, when I spotted this fellow buried inside my lillies. I snapped a couple of shots when he turned and headed toward me. That was enough bee photography for me! (July 10, 2008)

"If you define cowardice as running away at the first sign of danger, screaming and tripping and begging for mercy, then yes, Mr. Brave man, I guess I'm a coward."
   ~~ Jack Handy
irishmurr > Today I had the tables turned on me! (July 9, 2008)

"A good snapshot stops a moment from running away."
   ~~ Eudora Welty
irishmurr > Does this remind you of anyone? ;-)
(July 8, 2008)

"Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose."
   ~~ Tennessee Williams
irishmurr > Noodles.

Can you tell today was another pool day around our house? (July 7, 2008)

"Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability."
   ~~ Sam Keen
irishmurr > Such big splashes from such a little man. Johnny is definitely enjoying the pool this year! (July 6, 2008)

"If one synchronized swimmer drowns, do all the rest have to drown too?"
   ~~ Steven Wright
irishmurr > Saturday date night.

It was a lovely summer evening, so we went to a car cruise, took a long drive through the park, and finished off with ice cream. Perfect! (July 5, 2008)

There are three possible parts to a date, of which at least two must be offered: entertainment, food, and affection. It is customary to begin a series of dates with a great deal of entertainment, a moderate amount of food, and the merest suggestion of affection. As the amount of affection increases, the entertainment can be reduced proportionately. When the affection IS the entertainment, we no longer call it dating. Under no circumstances can the food be omitted.”
   ~~ Anonymous
irishmurr > Hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July! (July 4, 2008)

"And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me."
   ~~ Lee Greenwood
irishmurr > I've been trying to get a shot of the lilies in my yard for a couple of days now. Only a couple have bloomed so far, but then today was nothing but rain, leaving them all soggy .... so here's one from our trip to the zoo yesterday. I'll keep trying to catch one of mine! (July 3, 2008)

"When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other."
   ~~ Chinese Proverbs
irishmurr > This is for all the flamingo lovers out there!

It was a lovely day to spend at the zoo, so that's exactly what we did. (July 2, 2008)

"Someone told me it's all happening at the zoo."
   ~~ Paul Simon
irishmurr > I thought I'd try something a little different today. This is an interesting gentleman, who's well known in Trisha and Chas' neighborhood. He was happy to show his robot to this young man -- and happy to have his photo taken. It was so nice to stop and have a little conversation with him. (July 1, 2008)

"I have an affection for a great city. I feel safe in the neighborhood of man, and enjoy the sweet security of the streets."
   ~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
