I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but just got Photoshop Elements, so wish me luck!

I began posting on the daily photos community almost two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > Slainte to all my friends here on Smugmug!

We spent New Year's Eve like we have for years and years: with family and friends. There are no people I'd rather bring in the new year with. (December 31, 2008)

"And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne."
  ~~ Robert Burns
irishmurr > Today it was Aunt Debby's turn to cuddle our little Maeve.

Sorry for yet another grandchild shot, but when they're in the house, it doesn't leave time for much else.
;-)
(December 30, 2008)

We'll be ringing in the new year with all three grandkids this year ..... hmmmmm, wonder what my New Year's Eve shot will be?

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
   ~~ Steve Jobs
irishmurr > Caught in the act.

Jack normally comes toward me when he see me with the camera, but this time he didn't.

Want to know why? Because he was where he wasn't supposed to be -- which is UNDER the sheet we keep on the loveseat to keep his hair off of the loveseat.

Guess that didn't work so well, did it? (December 29, 2008)

"A cat will do what it wants when it wants, and there's not a thing you can do about it."
   ~~ Frank Perkins
irishmurr > Maeve was relaxing, minding her own business .... when she suddenly noticed me there with the camera.

I think she'd better get used to it -- just ask Johnny. ;-)
(December 28, 2008)

"If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera."
~~ Lewis Hine
irishmurr > Santa saying goodbye until next year.

Actually, this was the first time in days that we had seen the sun and when I noticed it shining on my Santa .... well, seemed like a sign that this should be my daily. :-)
(December 27, 2008)

"Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air…"
   ~~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
irishmurr > I spent most of my spare time today working on photos from Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so guess what you get? A shot from Christmas Day. :-)

This is Meredith (our friends' granddaughter) in the midst of all those gifts. And, no, they weren't all hers -- she had to share them with the four other grandkids in the family. (December 26, 2008)

"There's nothing sadder in this world than to awake Christmas morning and not be a child."
   ~~ Erma Bombeck
irishmurr > It had been a long day and was getting late, but Maeve was afraid she might miss something on this -- her very first Christmas. (December 25, 2008)

"Christmas is a day of meaning and traditions, a special day spent in the warm circle of family and friends."
   ~~ Margaret Thatcher
irishmurr > I don't think Johnny wanted to share the peppermint pig ....

Does anyone else do this? You put the candy pig in a poke, break it up into pieces and then share it with everyone. We also follow the tradition of lighting a candle and putting it in the window for weary travelers to find their way to our home.

It was a lovely Christmas Eve around our house. (December 24, 2008)

"Build traditions in your families that will bring you together, for they can demonstrate your devotion, love, and support for one another."
   ~~ L. Tom Perry
irishmurr > Seasons Greetings -- from our family to you and yours!
(December 23, 2008)

"What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace."
   ~~ Agnes M. Pahro
irishmurr > The boys came over to help me decorate our gingerbread house.
(December 22, 2008)

"When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things - not the great occasions - give off the greatest glow of happiness."
   ~~ Bob Hope
irishmurr > Just a quick shot of our fireplace and mantle. Somehow I think my dailies for the next week are going to be quick ones. (December 21, 2008)

"The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there."
  ~~ Clement Clarke Moore
irishmurr > Cousins.

My day began with Johnny and Michael and breakfast with Santa, and ended rocking Maeve to sleep. At one point during this hectic day, Johnny reached over to hold Maeve's hand, I snapped the shot and said "that's my daily". (December 20, 2008)

"The family is one of nature's masterpieces." ~George Santayana
irishmurr > We thought we might have a tough time getting Johnny to sit on Santa's lap this year, but once Santa gave him two suckers (one for each hand), Johnny didn't care what was going on and waited patiently while Michael talked to Santa.

And, yes, John William was kissing the suckers. (December 18, 2008)

"Anyone who uses the phrase 'easy as taking candy from a baby' has never tried taking candy from a baby."
    ~~ Anonymous
irishmurr > My nutcracker collection. Can you tell which one is my favorite? ;-)
(December 17, 2008)

And I want to thank all of you for your wonderful offers to come and help me finish my Christmas cards -- your comments made the job go a little easier, that's for sure. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: this is a great bunch of people!

"I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder."
   ~~ G.K. Chesterton
irishmurr > Anyone willing to come over and help me address Christmas cards? I have lasagna and some of those delicious cookies left .....(December 16, 2008)

"The best time to make friends is before you need them."
   ~~ Ethel Barrymore
