I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but got Photoshop Elements last year and am slowly learning to do some post processing.

I began posting on the daily photos community two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > Since we're going out-of-town this weekend, Johnny stopped by to see us. He left us with this smile, so that's what I'm leaving you with too. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend -- catch up with you in a couple of days! (April 16, 2009)

"Weekends don't pay as well as weekdays but at least there's football."
   ~~ S.A. Sachs

...... I chose this quote because we're going to Notre Dame for their Blue Gold game. Go Irish! :-)
irishmurr > Just another flower shot. I'm finally relaxing with my feet up, having survived another tax season and hoping now I'll be able to get my life back. We're going to Notre Dame this weekend, so I might even bring you a shot of something other than a baby or a flower. (April 15, 2009)

"Today, it takes more brains and effort to make out the income-tax form than it does to make the income."
   ~~ Alfred E. Neuman

Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments on Maeve's photo yesterday -- I was actually surprised myself how well it turned out. Of course, it helped that she gave me that precious smile. And this color version is for Michael, who wanted to see Maeve's red hair. :-)
irishmurr > Maeve turned six months old today, so we thought it was time for some naked baby shots. And you know there's a funny story to go with this photo shoot ...... of course:

Maeve likes to put her arms out like this -- whether she's laying on her tummy, sitting, whatever. Well, I wanted her hands in front of her for a shot and Photo Assistant Larry was on the j.o.b. I was all ready with the camera and grandpa would put Maeve's hands nicely in front of her, but the minute he let go , it was like they were on a spring. Boing! Here they were, and here they stayed. I think that's why we got this smile from Maeve Margaret -- she knew she'd gotten the best of us again. That, and the fact that we were laughing at her antics. (April 14, 2009)

“Accept the challenges so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory.”
   ~~ General George S. Patton
irishmurr > Fifteen years ago today, Larry and I lost his mother. We always think how much she would've cherished Johnny and Maeve -- and wish she could've been part of their lives. She's definitely still missed. (April 13, 2009)

"The future destiny of a child is always the work of the mother.”
   ~~ Napoleon Bonaparte
irishmurr > Easter day at our house .... and methinks these two were putting their heads together to see what mischief they could come up with for future family get-togethers. We'll definitely be keeping an eye on them. :-)

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter! (April 12, 2009)

"It is not easy to be crafty and winsome at the same time, and few accomplish it after the age of six."
~~ John W. Gardner and Francesca Gardner Reese
irishmurr > My favorite snapshot, in a day of snapshots. I managed to get nine of the ten children to actually sit for the photo (Maeve was napping at the time so we excused her) and got five or six of them to sort of look my way ....

This was the 8th year we've done our Big Eggstravaganza, where the kids color Easter eggs and while they're busy doing that, the Easter bunny hides eggs in our yard and our neighbor's yard. We've added more kids as the years have gone by, but they haven't gotten so old that it's not cool anymore. A couple weeks before, they're all checking with us to make sure we're still doing it. It was definitely a fun day! (April 11, 2009)

"A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
   ~~ Winston Churchill
irishmurr > Today it was Johnny's turn for some Easter shots! (April 10, 2009)

“A boy is naturally full of humor.”
   ~~ Sir Robert Baden-Powell
irishmurr > Overwhelmed ....

This is one of those days where I really debated about even posting a photo. My entire week has revolved around getting tax returns done and getting ready for the Easter weekend. I am so looking forward to this weekend ... before the last, mad push toward April 15. I wanted to do Easter photos all week, but my creativity has been zapped. This is the best I could do ....

but at least I did get some chocolate, because you know I didn't just photograph these! :-)
 (April 9, 2009)

“My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of M&M's and a chocolate cake. I feel better already.”
   ~~ Dave Barry
irishmurr > This is one of my favorite Easter decorations. My aunt gave me this glass egg when I was just a young girl. I'm amazed that I managed to keep it all these years, through all the moves, without breaking it. Guess that shows just how much it means to me. (April 8, 2009)

"Fewer and fewer Americans possess objects that have a patina, old furniture, grandparents' pots and pans, the used things, warm with generations of human touch, essential to a human landscape."
   ~~ Susan Sontag

To answer some of your questions about the background on yesterday's tulip shot -- it was pink Easter grass and foil covered chocolate eggs. I was shooting from above the tulips, so the grass and eggs were actually at the base of the plant. You know me -- keep it easy. :-)
irishmurr > My hubby surprised me by bringing home tulips -- which will be perfect for our Easter dinner table. (April 7, 2009)

"The best portion of a good man's life - his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love."
~~ William Wordsworth
irishmurr > Happy Easter?

Since I did it with Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day, I thought I'd do a week of Easter photos. And then when Mother Nature decided to give us some more snow .... well, this is what I ended up with. It had been snowing all afternoon, so I grabbed my trusty point and shoot and headed out to my flower bed before night fell. My poor daffodils! (April 6, 2009)

“It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily. "So it is." "And freezing." "Is it?" "Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately.”
   ~~ A. A. Milne
irishmurr > Meredith celebrated her first birthday today! (April 5, 2009)

"If we could be twice young and twice old we could correct all our mistakes."
    ~~ Euripides
irishmurr > The bunnies around our house definitely like yellow Easter eggs!

Take two of Maeve Margaret's Easter photo shoot .... tomorrow it's Johhny's turn. (April 4, 2009)

“Try and fail, but don't fail to try.”
   ~~ Stephen Kaggwa
irishmurr > We're going to try this one again tomorrow .....

Maeve was grabbing for the bunny, so we had to move it out of her reach -- then she was reaching for me -- and then she finally noticed the grass and almost tumbled out of her basket trying to get it. Looks like she's learning things from her cousin Johnny. :-)

And I have to mention her adorable bunny hat. Maeve's other grandma has been crocheting hats for her since before she was born, so for Maeve's very first Easter grandma made a special one with bunny ears! (April 3, 2009)

"You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance."
   ~~ Franklin P. Jones
irishmurr > My daffodils are blooming and it was a gorgeous, warm, sunny day -- so I figured I'd better get out and take a few shots .... because they're calling for temps back in the 30s and snow by the beginning of next week. :-(
(April 2, 2009)

"Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush."
   ~~ Doug Larson
