I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but got Photoshop Elements last year and am slowly learning to do some post processing.

I began posting on the daily photos community two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > I had every intention of getting outside -- however briefly -- to take a daily photo, but it was just too gosh-darned cold. Looking out the window, I spotted these icicles hanging off our front porch, which I could capture from the warmth of our living room.

Works for me! (January 16, 2009)

"It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily.
"So it is."
"And freezing."
"Is it?"
"Yes," said Eeyore.
"However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately.”
   ~~ A. A. Milne
irishmurr > As I was looking around the house for something to use as my daily, I noticed one of my teddy bear water globes. So, guess what you get? (January 14, 2009)

"The world of the teddy bear is an innocent one, a world that gives delight and hurts not, a world that appeals to all generations and all nationalities."
   ~~ Gyles Brandreth
irishmurr > We're in the deep freeze here, or as our local newscasters like to call it: Arctic Assault! (January 15, 2009)

"Baby, it's cold outside."
   ~~ Frank Loesser
irishmurr > Maeve was happy when tummy time was over.

I had her on the floor, and she was lifting her head up and down, up and down -- but looks happy here that she could just relax. Think I was working her too hard? ;-)

"Whenever I feel like exercise, I lie down until the feeling passes."
   ~~ Robert M. Hutchins
irishmurr > This brought a smile to my face -- hope it brings one to yours too. (January 12, 2009)

"One is never alone with a rubber duck."
   ~~ Douglas Adams
irishmurr > Johnny loves his cousin Maeve. (January 11, 2009)

"Be gentle with the young."
   ~~ Juvenal
irishmurr > I took a lot of photos today, one which reminded me of shutterbuglady and one which reminded me of Hillary, but you know me, I had to go with the cute kids shot. (January 10, 2009)

"You can only predict things after they have happened."
   ~~ Eugene Ionesco
irishmurr > When the snow started to arrive today, I began looking for something inside to use as a daily. Larry had his big lights out to do some painting in the basement, so I borrowed them. Then, of course, I needed something to put under those lights and my shamrocks caught my eye. Now, just wish I had a little better command of post-processing to make it a little more interesting. Ah .... there's always more to learn. (January 9, 2009)

"So you see, imagination needs moodling - long, inefficient, happy idling, dawdling and puttering."
   ~~ Brenda Ueland
irishmurr > This was actually taken the same time I took yesterday's flamingo shot, when the snow first started. This plant is completely covered now, and more snow is on it's way. It's looking like a good weekend to hibernate. (January 8, 2009)

"Snow and adolescence are the only problems that disappear if you ignore them long enough."
   ~~ Earl Wilson
irishmurr > For those who wanted to see more of me, here's another sp.

And I want to thank you all for the wonderful comments on my Maeve and Johnny photos this week. I'm beginning to think I should make sure one of the grandkids is around each day .... just for my daily. ;-)
(January 7, 2009)

"Keep away from those who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you believe that you too can become great."
   ~~ Mark Twain

.... and you, my friends, are really great!
irishmurr > Johnny's not the only happy baby around our house. (January 6, 2009)

"Real elation is when you feel you could touch a star without standing on tiptoe."
   ~~ Doug Larson
irishmurr > I've enjoyed the self-portraits that some of you have posted recently, so here's my first one of the new year. And if I have anything to do with it, this is all you'll ever see of me.
  :-)

It was a busy day, so this was actually one from my walk in the park on Saturday. I did play with it a little today using picnik (through smugmug) -- so, thanks Hillary, for that pointer! (January 5, 2009)

"Every man's work, whether it be literature or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself."
   ~~ Samuel Butler
irishmurr > Johnny loves his bath time. (January 4, 2009)

"Even when freshly washed and relieved of all obvious confections, children tend to be sticky."
   ~~ Fran Lebowitz
irishmurr > It was a balmy 31 degrees out, with little wind and the sun shining, so I decided -- instead of boring you with another shot of my knick knacks -- to get outside for a bit. Don't get excited though, I'm sure those knick knacks will be back. (January 3, 2009)

“Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you.”
  ~~ Walt Whitman
irishmurr > Ask and you shall receive.

I had originally converted my daily to b&w -- but wasn't too sure how it ended up. So, I went with the color version. Here's the b&w one, though.

Of course, someone with more skill at b&w conversion probably could've made this better. I do know my limitations .... :-)
