I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but got Photoshop Elements last year and am slowly learning to do some post processing.

I began posting on the daily photos community two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > Johnny's grandpa, Ulises, celebrated a milestone birthday this past week and tonight the family was all on hand to help him celebrate. (January 31, 2009)

Happy Birthday Ulises!

   ~~ T. S. Eliot
irishmurr > Welcome to my world.

Today I attempted to take some shots of the grandkids for my Mom, who will be celebrating her 70th birthday next week. As bad as this looks, we did manage to get a few goods photos -- although before it was all said and done, Maeve was crying and Johnny was gone .... I think I'll send her a couple of those photos, too, just so she knows what I went through to bring her that one precious shot. :-)

irishmurr > Memories.

First of all, let me assure you I did not take this photo! :-) I'm actually the little one in the very middle, being held by the oldest girl. I've been working on old family photos -- on this one I improved it as much as possible, added the frame and then placed it on the background -- so while this is not a shot I took today, it's how I spent my day.

My Dad was one of nine children and I'm one of 31 grandchildren on his side. My Mom was one of seven and there were 27 grandchildren on her side. My parents moved to Ohio when my Mom was pregnant with me but we always made sure to head back to Tennessee to visit each summer. I have the best memories of piling into the back of a pickup truck with all those cousins and being driven around by my grandfathers -- at the blazing speed of about 5 m.p.h.

So, as you can see, I had a wonderful day -- me and my memories. (January 29, 2009)

irishmurr > A tough act to follow.

Thank you all so much for the comments on my daily yesterday -- I was totally blown away. Talk about a tough act to follow. :-)

Anyway, we ended up with about a foot of snow today and, as you can see, I was following behind Larry and his snowblower with my trusty camera. Wish I would've remembered to change my ISO after I'd been taking some indoor shots, but it was snowing pretty good out there and, as you can see, the big guy was getting away from me. :-)

"Funny that a pair of really nice shoes make us feel good in our heads - at the extreme opposite end of our bodies."
   ~~ Levende Waters
irishmurr > Maeve is all ready for the big game on Sunday!

Actually, her Steelers-lovin' grandpa has a birthday coming up and we thought he might like a a shot of Maeve dressed in all her Steelers finery. (January 26, 2009)

"I want to bring back the pride and tradition long associated with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and more importantly, with the people of Pittsburgh."
   ~~ Bill Cowher
irishmurr > Not the most scenic sunrise I've ever seen, but with single digit temperatures out there, I was happy enjoying it from the comfort (and warmth) of my livingroom. (January 25, 2009)

"Rise early. It is the early bird that catches the worm. Don't be fooled by this absurd saw; I once knew a man who tried it. He got up at sunrise and a horse bit him."
   ~~ Mark Twain
irishmurr > It was too cold to get outside, so Maeve and I stayed inside and pretended we were taking a stroll around the neighborhood. (January 24, 2009)

irishmurr > Maeve and her Dad. (January 23, 2009)

   ~~ Sigmund Freud
irishmurr > Finally, some sunshine coming through our windows. (January 22, 2009)

"May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow.
May the soft winds freshen your spirit.
May the sunshine brighten your heart.
May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you,
and may God enfold you in the mantle of His love."
   ~~ Irish Blessing
irishmurr > Oh, why not ....

Haven't picked up the camera all week, so Maeve Margaret gets her turn in the sleeping grandbaby series -- since I just happened to have this shot of her from last week. I am determined, however, to take some photos today.

With Johnny and Michael coming over ...... hmmmm, wonder what they'll be? ;-)

   ~~ Jonathan Swift
irishmurr > My series of sleeping grandchildren continues.

It continues because I didn't even pick up the camera today and just happened to have this one from last week. My day started with a phone call saying my hubby had been taken by ambulance to the emergency room. So guess you can imagine the day we had. The big guy will be fine -- after a little r&r ... and the five prescriptions the doctor wrote for him. (January 20, 2009)

"Physical ills are the taxes laid upon this wretched life; some are taxed higher, and some lower, but all pay something."
   ~~ Lord Chesterfield

Sorry I was scarce yesterday and didn't have time to comment a lot -- but I will catch up with everyone as soon as I can!
irishmurr > Just when I started eyeing my knick-knacks to use as a daily, Johnny stopped by ..... to take a nap. (January 19, 2009)

"The amount of sleep required by the average person is five minutes more."
   ~~ Wilson Mizener
irishmurr > Poor Maeve Margaret.

She has one grandpa who's a Steelers fan, and another who's a Browns fan. Anyone who knows the rivalry between the Steelers and the Browns will understand her dilemma. The Browns have been out of the running this season since about the 3rd or 4th game, but as you all know, the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl and Maeve was here rooting them on to victory. Trust me, it was painful for Maeve's Browns' loving grandpa to hold this background behind her as I snapped a shot of her watching the game. Yes, he was actually saying "ouch!" as I took the photo. (January 18, 2009)

"Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable."
   ~~ Tom Landry
irishmurr > Party Time!

Ashley -- the one in the middle of this pile -- is our next door neighbor. We've seen her grow from a newborn to this, and she even calls us her third set of grandparents. Tonight was her birthday party, so we bundled up and walked next door and helped her celebrate her 8th birthday. The highlight of the night was karoake -- and when we left, her uncles were singing "Feel Like A Woman" .... if that tells you anything. Needless to say, a grand time was had by all.
