irishmurr  > Photography > Daily Photos (Jan. - June, 2009)
I have a Canon Rebel XT and a EF 28-135mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens and a EFS 60mm Macro lens (all Canon). I've never really done any pp, but got Photoshop Elements last year and am slowly learning to do some post processing.

I began posting on the daily photos community two years ago and hope that making this effort on a daily basis has helped to improve my photography skills -- but realize that I still have a long way to go! Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.

irishmurr > Maeve Margaret is ready for her first St. Patrick's Day!

As you can see, her outfit is done .... now, only two shirts to go, and I'll be done with my sewing for the year. (March 11, 2009)

"St. Patrick's Day is an enchanted time -- a day to begin transforming winter's dreams into summer's magic."
   ~~ Adrienne Cook
irishmurr > I'm sure you all know what's happening one week from today ..... and you know the Murrays will be enjoying a pint or two with loads of family and friends. ;-)

Here's a tidbit about this particular Great Lakes beer: the dashing gentleman pictured on the label is the grandfather of the Conway brothers, owners of the brewery. He was a Cleveland policeman, who came here from County Mayo. Perfect for their Irish ale, don't you think?

Slainte to all our friends here on Smugmug! (March 10, 2009)

"There are good ships,
and there are wood ships,
The ships that sail the sea.
But the best ships, are friendships,
And may they always be."
   ~~ Irish Toast
irishmurr > Happy 50th Birthday Barbara Millicent Roberts .... she definitely looks better than I did when I reached that milestone. (March 9, 2009)

“Barbie is the most fashionable girl on the planet.”
~~ Lauren Dougherty
irishmurr > Sorry I was scarce today, but as some of you may remember, once a year I dust off the sewing machine and make St. Paddy's Day outfits for the grandkids. This year we have a new twist -- Johnny and his Daideo are going to have matching "Hawaiian" shirts made with this fabric, while Maeve Margaret's outfit will be all sparkly. (And I have glitter all over my house to prove it.) The two older boys are getting the standard t-shirts because, of course, something made by grandma isn't cool when you're nine years old. :-)
(March 8, 2009)

"Really I don't dislike to cook, but what you cook is eaten so quickly. When you sew, you have something that will last to show for your efforts."
   ~~ Elizabeth Travis Johnson
irishmurr > We made it to the auto show today and between people, reflections, overhead lights .... well, this is about as good as it gets. Larry was checking out the Harleys, which had some incredible paint jobs -- add a little zoom effect and vignette and, voila, here's my daily. (March 6, 2009)

“Life's disappointments are harder to take when you don't know any swear words.”
   ~~ Calvin & Hobbes

And Maeve Margaret says "go raimh maith agat" (thanks in Irish celtic) for all those wonderful comments on her photo yesterday!
irishmurr > Originally we were supposed to spend the afternoon at the auto show, but when those plans got cancelled, Maeve and I decided it was time to try a St. Paddy's Day shot. Bet you never would've guessed this was mine? :-)
(March 5, 2009)

“You have to be fast on your feet and adaptive or else a strategy is useless.”
   ~~ Charles de Gaulle
irishmurr > I love the light many of you capture in your still lifes, so today was my turn to give it a try. (March 4, 2009)

"You learn something every day if you pay attention."
   ~~ Ray LeBlond
irishmurr > We're passing around the respiratory bug that's out there and that, together with the fact that it was "crazy cold" outside, left me totally wiped out today. So I thought one of these shots of my flowers from last summer might make me feel better ... and it did. :-)

I did also adjust it a little and added the frame with smugmug's picnik tool today, so hope that counts as my daily. (March 3, 2009)

"You have a cough? Go home tonight, eat a whole box of Ex-Lax - tomorrow you'll be afraid to cough."
   ~~ Pearl Williams
irishmurr > We're members of our local Irish American Club and a friend just gave us a souvenir program from the Club's picnic held in July, 1949. It was fascinating to read the articles, names of Cleveland Irish elite of that era and the ads -- including the haberdashery "for Dad and the Boys." This caught my eye under sports: a Gaelic football match where the Shamrocks were playing the Celtics. (March 2, 2009)

"The challenge of history is to recover the past and introduce it to the present."
    ~~ David Thelen

BTW, Larry and the Larrettes thank you for all your comments yesterday. Reading them was almost as much fun as watching the show they put on for us. :-)
irishmurr > I think Larry is taking his show on the road, so if you're lucky, he might be appearing at a city near you.

Can you tell being married to this guy for all these years has been a lot of fun? :-)
(March 1, 2009)

"Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance."
   ~~ Dave Barry
irishmurr > Maeve is like her cousin Johnny, she's fascinated by that baby in the mirror. (February 28, 2009)

“The eyes are the mirror of the soul."
   ~~ Yiddish Proverb
irishmurr > When I left the house to go to work this morning, it was practically balmy ...... but that had changed drastically by the time I came home. We only got a few flurries -- just enough to make this interesting pattern on the sandbox.

I'm definitely looking forward to the days when the sun is shining and the kids are playing in the sandbox, instead of me standing there, freezing my butt off, taking a photo of it .... (February 27, 2009)

"Sunshine is a welcome thing. It brings a lot of brightness.”
   ~~ Jimmie Davis
irishmurr > Thought I'd give you a break from the grandkid shots -- although Maeve was here with us, and eyeing those chicken wings .... (February 25, 2009)

"Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity."
   ~~ Voltaire
irishmurr > Petals the Clown stopped by to entertain the kids (and adults) at Johnny's party. (February 22, 2009)

"I don't want to be called 'the greatest' or 'one of the greatest'; let other guys claim to be the best. I just want to be known as a clown because to me that's the height of my profession. It means you can do everything-sing, dance, and above all, make people laugh."
   ~~ Red Skelton
irishmurr > Party Time! Can you tell we're all ready for Smiling Joe and Shorty's visit?

Okay, I cannot tell a lie: we're actually getting ready for Johnny's birthday party. Our little man is turning two on Monday, so it's going to be a busy weekend around here. I'll try and check in when I can, but if not, hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Gotta go .... I'm off to make Shepherd's Pie for 50 .... (February 20, 2009)

"Most of us can remember a time when a birthday - especially if it was one's own brightened the world as if a second sun has risen."
   ~~ Robert Lynd
